Concept of Ion Implantation Technology

When an ion beam in a vacuum is shot at a solid material, the ion beam knocks the atoms or molecules of the solid material out of the surface of the solid material, this phenomenon is called sputtering; when the ion beam hits the solid material, it bounces off the surface of the solid material. It comes back, or goes out of the solid material, these phenomena are called scattering; another phenomenon is that after the ion beam hits the solid material, the speed of the ion beam is slowly reduced by the resistance of the solid material, and finally stays in the solid material. This phenomenon is called ion implantation.

Principle of ion implantation technology:

It is a high-tech material surface modification technology that has flourished and widely used in the world in the past 30 years. Its basic principle is: when an ion beam with an energy of 100keV is incident into the material, a series of physical and chemical interactions will occur between the ion beam and the atoms or molecules in the material, and the incident ions gradually lose energy, and finally stay in the material, causing the surface composition of the material’s structure and properties change, so as to optimize the surface properties of materials, or obtain some new excellent properties. Due to its unique and outstanding advantages, this high-tech has been widely used in the doping of semiconductor materials and the surface modification of metals, ceramics, polymers, etc., which has achieved great economic and social benefits.
